Go ahead and laugh you know it's funny.

Could maybe should be posted in the political forum but I don't see the need in depriving anyone a good laugh.

Go ahead and laugh you know it's funny.
I didn't laugh, and it's not really funny. This is the type of stuff that Obama talked about last week at the meeting with the Republicans...instead of focusing on issues & facts, it's petty stuff that gets tossed out there to score political points w/little to no facts and/or lies disguised as facts. The part of that clip where it said something about losing jobs and going deeper in debt is a prime example, and it's just sniping from a far away perch where you don't have to defend the statement.

I'm sick of it on both sides, and I'd like to see people take accountability for assertions made. This video was meant as silly, sure, but it undermines getting stuff done...and that's what matters.

I don't agree w/a lot of what Obama says/does, but man...I'm sick of the political games. WTF happened to having debates on the important issues and making a decision to make things better for all Americans?

It's called buyer's remorse, the ones in charge are the ones that keep trying to ram everything down our throats and don't want to debate or discuss anything. And that was the point of the video that he does alot of talking and no listening.

its funny, the right calls it jamming down people's throats, and trying to make sure nothing gets over of them

while the left calls it being confrontational, using political bias to try and stop an idea in its tracks, no matter how good or bad, for fear of the left looking like a success.

Can't see the pic (red x), but to a point, Clyburn's right. You don't go overboard and spend money on everything like every comment below that article assumed in hyperbole. You spend wisely and invest in things that make our economy stronger. More education = more well prepared/skilled workforce in the future, for one example. There's ways to spend and create stimulation in the places that can help us out of this recessional period. We can either spend money and let the economy grow and work through this cycle to help us get out of debt, or we can spend nothing and raise taxes across the board to put the onus directly on the taxes collected. Both ways are tough ways to do it, but they're really the only ways to solve the deficit issues that *gasp* were due to the two wars we fought pre-Obama that were never put on the books in the budget but were paid via presidential supplementals.

I think that's part of the problem--conservatives are so worried about saying no to anything Obama says yes to, that they knee-jerk at every Democratic idea and say it's our way or the highway when they're not the ones with the majority in Congress. And us as citizens are sitting here wondering why Congress has their thumbs up their arses unwilling to pass hardly any laws that can help us get out of this mess we're in.

It's called buyer's remorse, the ones in charge are the ones that keep trying to ram everything down our throats and don't want to debate or discuss anything. And that was the point of the video that he does alot of talking and no listening.
No, the ones in charge have the majority of the votes, and the minority is yelling "what about us" when they don't have the votes to push their own agendas through in whole.

Like Obama said last week, there was a bill this year that was co-sponsored by some Democrats along with 7 Republicans. When the bill came to Obama's attention, he said "that's a good idea, I like that". When the bill came to a vote, all 7 of the Republicans voted against the very bill that they co-sponsored b/c Obama said it was a good idea...now how is that getting something rammed down their throats?

I heard it said somewhere that the Heath Care debate in Congress had been the 2nd longest debate in Congressional history. If it's just getting "rammed thru", then why did they spend so much time debating it in multiple committees?

Maybe if the Republicans came to the table knowing they're not going to get everything they want b/c they're the minority party at the moment, maybe they can make some meaningful law that has some of the things they want in it. I think that's what Obama wants, instead of continually saying "no" and being unwilling to any sort of compromise on these issues at hand. You get nothing done by sitting on your hands and refusing to come to the table in good faith, and instead using all of your resources & time on scoring political "gotcha" points with your base.

Re: Go ahead and laugh you know it's funny.

Are you sure your an accounting person.

Stimulus plans do not work, the gov't doesn't add value to the economy it removes value from the economy by imposing taxes on one citizen and providing cash to another. Or it borrows money that would otherwise be used by investors and redistributes it elsewhere. Or it prints more money and threatens the value of the dollar. Nothing is stimulated, spending power is not increased.
The way to stimulate the economy would be for the fed to slash capital gains taxes, corporate income taxes, and individual income tax rates, thereby increasing liquidity available to individuals and businesses. Since most people do not hide their cash in cigar boxes, the additional money would either be spent or invested. The more favorable investment environment would also attract the flow of foreign investment into American markets from countries that tax their citizens and businesses at higher rates. Furthermore, the stock market would react favorably to market-oriented spending and savings and it would benefit directly from increased equity purchases resulting from increased investor confidence.
Along these lines, in 1981, when the economy was reeling from double-digit interest, unemployment, and inflation rates, Reagan championed the passage of the Economic Recovery Tax Act. It cut individual federal income tax brackets by 25%, phased over three years, and indexed the rates against inflation to prevent creeping bracket increased in future years. The act also instituted the Accelerated Cost Recovery System and a 10% Investment Tax Credit, which led to a substantial increse in capital formation. The goal was to create incentives by removing significant government barriers to investment, productivity and growth. The Result: inflation dropped form 13.5% in 1980 to 4.1 in 1988. Interest rates dropped from 18% on a 30 year fixed mortgage in 1981 to 8% in 1987; and unemployment dropped from a peak near 10% in the recession of 1981-82 to 5.5% in 1989, once the full force of the tax cuts kicked in. The Reagan economic program, based largely on free market principles, spurred economic prosperity that created, over the next 25 years, 43 million jobs and $30 trillion in wealth.

This is from Mark Levin's Liberty and Tyranny. If you would like to read something from someone that has the experience and background to back up what he writes about you are more than welcome to borrow my copy.

Is the the same Mark Levin that worked under Reagan? Pretty funny that you're saying we should take any economic advise from anyone from that admin.

Again since you obviously couldn't comprehend it the first time:

You see this actually worked with the numbers to prove it.

Re: Go ahead and laugh you know it's funny.

You do realize that this had little to do with the turn around then, right? Google Paul Volcker, then come back. The cuts under Reagan had little effect, when Volcker released the money back into the economy, that's when the recovery started...the numbers don't add up with the tax cuts and the recovery, Volckers do and he's credited with turning things around. You're doing nothing more than repeating that conservative myth dripping in exaggeration.

Re: Go ahead and laugh you know it's funny.

And every democrat and nearly every republican in the country wanted Paul Volcker fired. Who didn't do that.....could it be?

And you are just repeating the far left Reagan hating myth dripping in exaggeration. The simple truth is that it was a combination of the policies of the two that produced the results.
